today has been lovely and sunny :) we woke up nice and early as we're still adjusting to the time. Last night we went for a late night shop to get some clothes to replace liz's absent bag.

We went for breakfast in a little shop and brought strange bread and pastries that we didnt recognise and then walked to the beach.

Half way there we asked someone for directions....everyone is very friendly here! He told us not to go under the bridge as it's by a favela and theres lots of guns and we should get a taxi. As soon as we got in a taxi we heard gunshots which was a bit of a shock!

On the copacabana beach were around 20thousand people decked out in green and yellow and crowding into a fenced area. We joined them infront of a huge screen and had Guarana drinks and portugese beer. We watched a very tense game but the atmosphere was incredible...especially when we scored!

There was also live music, samba, show girls and an air display.

We belatedly made our way back...!constantly being asked if we're from Holland! We had a lovely veggie lunch and bought lots of fruit from the supermercado.... Some we recognise some we dont :)

After tea tonight we're going to attempt to find a bar and meet some new people. And maybe cool off our sunburn :)

  1. Definitely read 'vuvuzela' for 'favela' there and wondered if the situation out there was really that bad. Apparently not though.
